Designing the Leads
OREN
Oren is just a big-hearted guy who wants to help whoever he can. The newest Avatar born during the Earth cycle, Oren has no idea how special he is. Growing up with strict parents whose only concerns were his academics and being a contributing member of the newly occupied Hujiang state, Oren has always been naive to the world’s kindness. His Avatar abilities are kept secret by his parents from the world, leaving the world to believe the Avatar cycle ended with Korra.
Oren is a tank of a bender, having mandatory training for his inevitable enlistment into the armed forces when he turns 15, he’s a force to be reckoned with. I wanted to give him a stalky build but a very shy demeanor. He doesn’t speak out of term, he has a deep respect for his elders and has a strong sense of justice. All he wants is the liberation of his family and to end the vicious cycle of war and starvation of his people.
I never asked for this. I don’t know what to do or who to turn to. All I know is I have to do this and I don’t think I’m alone.
Zhang Ye
Zhang Ye is your typical theater darling. She’s fun, spontaneous, and outgoing. Some might say she’s rather combustive. She’s not afraid to feel her feelings and she’ll tell you what’s on her mind. Zhang Ye has an affinity (or annoying obsession) for Air Nomad customs and is always seen volunteering or organizing at the Air Temple for the next big play in Republic City.
Zhang Ye is the preppy cheerleader type who’s always there for her friends and will never miss an opportunity to do the right thing, even if she accidentally sets something on fire. Zhang is a proficient fire dancer and while her bending isn’t the most honed in, she can certainly look like she knows what she’s doing.
You can count on me! We’ll have this place fixed up an a jiffy….uh, two jiffies!
